VILLAGE
REPORT - KAY DRAKE 522727
Magnificent is the word to sum up Saturday’s
St Bartholomew’s
Fair. The setting for this event was wonderful and the weather was brilliant,
heralding what is thought to be a record attendance. Takings, before expenses,
were in excess of £6,000 and the Tea Stall won the best dressed stall
competition. Thanks go to Mark Roy and Irene Weber for allowing the use of
their beautiful grounds, and to all the volunteers who worked so tirelessly
before, during and after the event. The fair day is always a long one, with
volunteers working from 8am in the morning to 8pm at night, so it is particularly
rewarding for them when the event is an outstanding success. Well done and
many thanks to all concerned. |

The road closure, between The Horns and Rye Lane, has
been operational since Monday June 23 with no vehicular access to the High
Street
from the west. Please do support your High Street shops, pubs, restaurants
and businesses, as this will be a very difficult period for them with the
loss of passing trade. Why not take a leisurely stroll down to the village
and enjoy the wonderful front garden displays of plants and foliage instead
of just driving by? |

REPORT - KAY DRAKE 522727
Congratulations to Otford Village Fete committee
for a hugely successful fete on Bank Holiday Monday. The weather was wonderful,
over 6,500
people attended, both car parks were full and all the prize draw tickets
were sold. The circus theme proved popular, contributing to the carnival
atmosphere. There were 26 enthusiastic participants in the fancy dress competition,
although procession float numbers were lower than last year. The final sum
raised has yet to be calculated, but local groups and individuals are invited
to apply for donations. The committee would like to give special thanks to
all those people who assisted in the lead up and on the day. Their help went
a long way to making the day such a success. |

Phil Baxter, who farms in Otford and Cudham and who used
to play football for Otford and coach and run one of the junior teams, would
like to extend a warm welcome to his open garden at Cottage Farm, Cudham
on Sundays, June 8, 15, 22 and 29, between 1.30pm and 6pm. Phil is a member
of Otford Horticultural Society and his garden is open as part of the National
Garden Scheme, raising money for their charities and for Bromley Harris Hospice.
There will be an entrance fee of £2.50 and cream teas and plants will
be on sale.
Cottage Farm is easy to find from Otford by turning left at the Green Street
Green roundabout on the A21 and following this road for a couple of miles
until at the top, after it flattens out in Cudham, you pass a small garage,
on the left, after which you turn left. Cottage Farm is the second set of
three cottages on the right. Turn right just past the cottages into the farm
drive where you will find lots of free parking. |
