A coffee morning will be held at 10.00a.m. Wednesday
29th October in the Club Room of the Memorial Hall by the Sevenoaks and District
Glaucoma Support Group who meet twice a year. Glaucoma is the name of the group
of eye conditions in which the optic nerve is damaged and unfortunately sight
can be lost without the patient being aware of any symptoms so it is important
to have regular eye checks.
On Wednesday 29th the talk will be by Mrs Hazel
Willby, a Dispensing Optician, who will give advice about types of frames, face
shapes and colouring. It is always a problem to those who wear glasses to see
whether the frames suit as they cannot see without their spectacles. All are
welcome, particularly on this occasion, as the talk may appeal to anyone who
wears glasses. For further information contact Hilary Johnson 01959 522917. |

Otford and District Wine Club is holding its AGM at 8pm,
on Wednesday, October 29, in the memorial hall. There will be a review of the
events of the past year and the committee will hear suggestions from members
about the running of the club. A new committee will be elected and subscriptions
of £6
per member collected for the coming year. A light buffet supper, with wine provided
by the club, will follow the business. The home-made wine competition will not
be held this year, due to recent dwindling entries. Instead there will be a ‘Pudding
Competition’. Members are invited to submit hot or cold home-made puddings
(puddings can be heated in the hall kitchen if required). This will run on the
same lines as the wine competition, with all members sampling the puddings and
awarding them points. The Kirsch Cup will be awarded to the winning pudding maker.
Any pudding is acceptable and they are hoping for some old-fashioned entries
such as jam roly poly or spotted dick. The evening is free to members, with visitors
being charged a small fee. Tickets for the Christmas Social will also be on sale
during the evening. Details available on 01732 761359. |
