Otford Village Fete
Committee would like to remind villagers that their plans for the 2004 Fete,
on Monday 31st May, are well under way. There is still room for village societies
to have a stall and organisations/clubs/societies are being sought to participate
in the procession. This year’s theme is ‘Television’ which
allows for lots of scope. The procession really gets the day rolling so please
contact 01959 525120 if you are interested in taking part. The committee is also
considering resurrecting the ‘Tug of War’ so if you have any questions
about this, or the Fete in general please contact the above number. |

Camera signs on the pond, and on the
Sevenoaks Road, have been brought to my attention and apparently these are required
to indicate the use of random, mobile, speed cameras which will be operational
in this area of the village. It is mandatory to display these signs if speed
cameras are in use so please be aware that you should abide by the displayed
limits to avoid being caught speeding. |

to his tale but also participating in his songs. This was an Applause production

Carlton TV were in
the village last week to film the 3 Otford WI's for their series 'Tales from
the Country '. They
approached the WI's in Otford to feature in the programme as it is unusual for
a village to be able to support 3 Institutes. Starting at 8.30a.m. the crew followed
various individual members of Otford Oast WI while they were maintaining part
of the village green. They were interviewed about having younger women members,
and providing a free creche at their meetings which is unusual. Filming coincided
with Otford Afternoon WI's 85 th birthday party so the afternoon was spent in
the Memorial Hall enjoying the celebrations and Otford Evening WI entertained
everyone with some of their members in the choir. The series, originally called ' Carlton Country,' will
be broadcast sometime between the end of March and June and details will appear
in this column as soon as they are available. |
