The Rising Sun pub in Twitton Lane
has a number of events planned for the summer. Come along on Sat 3rd July and
help celebrate the Pubs
Birthday Party from 7pm. Sun 18th July from 12 noon the Folk
Garden Party gets under way
with guests, so far, Hunt The Wren, Skinners
Rats, Paul Sirman and Jon Loomes.
On Sat & Sun 7th & 8th August there is a Beer Festival with
a selection of 12 real ales at £2 per pint. At all events there
will be a Hog Roast or BBQ. Contact

YCLUB
Olivia Flint is leading a national Christian event called theatre
week; a residential week of learning and rehearsing a musical, this year
West Side Story, in order to do 2 performances of it on the Saturday and Sunday.

Otford Primary School is holding its summer fete on Saturday
3rd July from 12.00 noon. Entrance 60p for adults, children free. This is always
a great family event and there will be something for everyone from mega slide,
bouncy castle, beat the goalie and children’s crafts to BBQ, beer tent
and strawberries and cream. There will also be stalls of plants, toys, books
and a tea room. The ballet, jazz and disco dancing displays and tug-of-war will
keep you entertained and the afternoon will finish with the Grand Raffle Draw. |

Otford Gardeners’ Society are giving advance notice
to all flower arrangers who are invited to take part in the new open class at
their Rose & Summer Show Saturday 10th July in the Memorial Hall. The title
of the class is ‘A Summer’s Day’ to fit an alcove size of 20

Next Police Surgery between 10.00a.m. and 12.00 noon is on
Wednesday 7th when PC Jackie Allen will again be joined by Lorraine Chapman from
West Kent Housing. One of the questions to be asked of PC Allen is what help
the police can give to avoid the disruption and damage caused by local drunken
youths at the end of the recent Otford Village Fete. If you have any concerns
please do go along and raise them. |

The June edition

Congratulations to
the Russell House Mini Tennis Red boys and girls teams who competed in the British
Schools Kent Championships on Tuesday 8th June at the Kent County Centre at Newstead
Woods and both teams won. The boys team played Keston in the final, and although
both teams won three matches, Russell
House came out on top having won more points.
In the girls final, Russell
House beat the Bromley High first team.
During the Summer holidays, Otford
Mini Tennis Club will be holding Mini Tennis
coaching courses at Otford
Tennis Club, and a number of Mini Tennis tournaments.
The club is an LTA accredited Mini Tennis club. For further details, please look

Otford Tennis Club are also running Senior coaching sessions on Saturday mornings
from 9.30 - 11.00am from June 12th - July 3rd and from July 17th - August 7th.

Otford Village Fete, Bank Holiday Monday (31st) was a great
success, enjoying fine weather and a record crowd. The Fete Committee would like
to thank all those involved both behind the scenes and on the day as this all
contributed to a great day. |

Otford Wine Club would like to thank all members who helped
at their Ice Cream Stall at the Fete and all those who bought ice creams. It
proved a very successful, through tiring, day. The next meeting will be the annual
Barbecue starting at 1.00p.m. on Sunday 27th June at Sidehill, Pilgrims Way,

the organisation which helps the children who need it the most, will be held

Stan Miles, the barber, has so far raised an incredible £3846
running the recent London Marathon for Ellenors and they are very grateful. He
still has to collect some of his sponsorship money so if this could be dropped
in to him at his shop in the High Street this would be appreciated. |

South East Open Studios are open from Friday June 11th
until June 27th and this year Otford boasts a total of 5 participants. Angela
Bishop, 5 Broughton Road, Lindsay Connors, The Bungalow, Broughton Manor, High
Street, Sarah Cunnington, 65A Pilgrims Way West, Pauline Lovell, 48 Greenhill
Road, and Stepan Terteryan, 5 Broughton Road. Angela will be showing, in her
garden and gallery, figurative sculptures from miniature to life-size casts in
mixed mediums including bronze and Stepan Terteryan exhibits limited edition
jewellery in precious metal and gemstones both on Saturday and Sunday 12th and
13th, Friday 18th to Sunday 20th and Friday 25th to Sunday 27th. Copies of the
free guide and artists directory is obtainable from all participants or visit
the website www.southeastopenstudios.org.uk. |
