Ellenors Open Gardens programme continues on Sunday
1st August with 188 and 190 Birchwood Avenue, Wilmington open from 2.00 to 5.00p.m.
to raise funds for this local registered charity. At number 188 the wind howls
through the trees, old scents fill the air and a swimming pool masquerades as
a jungle. There is a large replanted wild garden to the rear and there are strange
things attached to the bountiful chestnut tree. If all this sounds intriguing
do go along and have a look. At number 190 the front garden has lawns and beds
on both sides of the curving driveway. The entrance to the large garden to the
rear is by a pathway on the side of the house leading to a stepped patio with
more curved beds. There is a large well stocked pond, with bridge and fountain,
and around the large lawn a wide range of flowers, shrubs, pampas grass and roses.
Unfortunately no dogs are permitted in either garden and number 190 is unsuitable
for wheelchairs. |

The Wind in the Willows. The joint action of Otford
Primary School, the PTA, and the Otford Parish Council produced a spectacular show in
the school playground last Friday evening. Despite the variable weather there
were only a few drops of rain to worry the crowd of 200 who had gathered to watch
the Channel Theatre production. The cast were adamant that this was the best
audience so far, of the 12 venues around Kent and Sussex, not only in numbers
but also reaction with all the boo’s and claps in the right places. Well
done everyone. More Applause shows on 25th September and 3rd March 2005. |
