Otford Society offered standing room only when over 125
residents crowded into the Memorial Hall last Thursday for their Autumn Meeting
and enormous interest was shown in the development plans for 12 Coombe Road and
Well Road.
The meeting unanimously passed a resolution asking the SDC Development Control
Committee to refuse the planning application for 12 Coombe Road – which
was recently recommended for approval by an SDC site meeting – on the grounds
of it being contrary to the District Local Plan.
Representatives of Laing’s Builders were also present to explain their
outline proposals for 17 houses at 64-66 Well Road, adjoining the Station footpath.
They were faced with critical questioning on density, infrastructure, rain and
foul water drainage, vehicular access and traffic problems and took note of the
concerns of those present.
The evening culminated in the first showing of Barbara
Darby’s new video ‘The
Vanished Palace of Otford’, scripted by Rod Shelton, which vividly
portrays life in Archbishop Warham’s 16th century Tudor palace, available
from the Heritage Centre for £6.50. |
