Southern train operators and South Eastern Trains are
to make train horns quieter which should please lineside neighbours. Both train
companies have started fitting quieter horns to their fleet of new Electrostar
trains after being given the all clear by the Rail
Safety and Standards Board (RSSB). The reduction in horn volume will benefit everyone living near the railway
and particularly those people living near road and footpath crossings where the
horn must be sounded every time a train passes. The reduction volume of the train
horns follows a change in the rules governing the sounding of horns in tunnels.
These modified horns provide a significant reduction in volume and the operators
are confident they have done all they can to reduce the noise level of the existing
train horns and hope this will be recognised by the public. |

started recently with a children’s party which took the form of a very
entertaining drama workshop and certainly brought out the performing skills of
many of those attending. At the party a competition was launched, which is open
to any child from 4-11 years, to design a picture and the winners in the two
age groups (4-7 and 7-11) will form a web page on the St.
Bart’s website
entitled ‘The Church Through My Eyes’. This can be a picture from
a bible story, a church, or a depiction of what the person thinks God or Jesus
looks like and can be as imaginative as you like. For further details contact

Duck report. In last weeks issue a 8 year old reader enquired
about the whereabouts of the Otford ducks and I am pleased to say that the Parish
Council, who are the responsible body in this case, confirm that the injured
duck is well on the road to recovery. Apparently the injury to the ducks leg,
caused by an abandoned fish hook, became badly infected which made the duck very
lame. Plans are in hand to locate a companion and the duck house, with an adapted
ramp, is under construction and it is hoped that it will not be too long before
Otford is replete with pond, ducks and duck house. Please watch this space. |
