New community warden Nick Roots is now based at the Parish
Council office in the High Street and his job is fairly similar to a PCSO’s.
His main role is to patrol our area on foot, provide a high visible presence,
and be available for a reassuring chat about any issues that are of concern to
villagers such as fly tipping, graffiti and anti social behaviour. If you see
him around the village he will be happy to talk to you or you can contact him
on 07813 713366 or via the parish office 01959 524808. |

Otford Gardeners’ Society, on behalf of the Parish
Council, are again organising the village front garden competition. Members of
the society will have been touring the village during July and will continue
throughout August looking at gardens that would take the eye of a stranger, without
having to peer over a hedge, fence or wall. Good luck everyone and look out for
details of the winners in a future issue. |

Coffee is served every Saturday morning in the Club Room
of the Memorial Hall between 10.30 and 12.15. If you are new to the village
this is an ideal place to call in for a chat with some of the regulars to find
out just what goes on in Otford. There is a list of at least 45 societies that
meet regularly in the hall and you might like to join one. The coffee mornings
are run by volunteers, headed by Maureen Bolton 01959 522789 and Joyce Shaw 01959
522736, and they would love to hear from anyone interested in helping. The atmosphere
is friendly, dates are flexible, and work out that you would be called on about
once every couple of months. Please ring Maureen or Joyce if you could help. |

It's Summer again so can I remind you that you need
to lock up your mower, do not leave the garage door open showing items that may
be stolen, and do not leave anything visible in a vehicle. Be aware, even when
unloading your weekly shop, not to leave keys in the ignition of your vehicle,
or easily to hand. Please stay vigilant and advise your Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator
if you see, or hear, anything suspicious. Otford and Shoreham will now benefit
from a Warden, in addition to our shared PCSO, and regular policeman. As well
as his other duties he will provide another pair of eyes which will help keep
this one of the lowest crime areas in Kent. |
