Are you all making your eggs into something EGGSTRAORDINARY for the village ‘EGGSTRAVAGANZA’ event that will be in the Club Room of the Memorial Hall on Easter Monday?
Please bring your decorated eggs between 9.30-11.30am. They will all be on show between 2.30-4.30pm. Prize giving is at 4.00pm. It is intended that they will remain on show for the ‘Village of the Year’ judges who are coming to Otford the following day (Tuesday 18th April) from 2.30 to 4.30pm.
Please make sure our village looks at its best, and if you see any litter anywhere before that time please pick it up as the judges will be taken on a tour of the whole of the village. Otford is being judged in six categories: our community life, businesses, young people, older people, environment, and information communication technology - in other words our village websites.
Otford is the best village, now we have the chance to prove it! Copies of our entry are available to read in the village library and may be borrowed from the Parish Office.

VILLAGE NEWS ITEM SUBMITTED
My name is Sue Stephenson and I work for Otford Parish Council as Assistant Clerk. On Friday 21st April starting after I have finished work at 12.30 I intend to walk around the Otford Recreation Ground to raise money for the new playground projects at Hale Lane and the Main Recreation Ground proposed by the Parish Council.
80% of the cost of the project is hoped to be covered by a grant from DEFRA but the remaining needs to be raised by the community. The amount needed is £13,850 so I am walking 13.85 miles, which is quite a lot of laps! I have received a good amount of sponsorship for which I thank everyone but I am looking for more! You can sponsor me either by coming into the Parish Council Office during the morning or at 'Stans'.
The Otford Society are running the main appeal and you can leave donations at School House or Hubert's Stores, Telston Lane with cheques made payable to The Otford Society.

VILLAGE REPORT - KAY DRAKE 522727
Otford Memorial Hall are looking for someone with a few hours a week to spare to act as treasurer as, after many years of splendid service, John Bolton the current treasurer is standing down. Although the accounts are handled manually at present this job would be highly suited to someone who can computerise the system. The job in itself is relatively straightforward for somebody with some experience of accounting or bookkeeping and John will be able to tell you more. It is necessary for the treasurer to attend Trustees meetings but these are only four times a year and last for no more than 1½ hours and are generally shorter than this. If you think that you could spare a few hours a week to help with the efficient running of one of the village’s main amenities then please call Ron Dullage, Chairman, on 01959 522007 or John Bolton on 01959 522789.
The Memorial Hall AGM is on Thursday 4th May at 8.00p.m. in the Club Room of the hall and it is hoped that a successor to John can be found before this meeting.

The estimated cost of this is £69,250 but an 80% grant is available from DEFRA if the village can raise £14,000. A good part of the community’s share must be raised by May 31st to quality for the 2006 and every £1 you give will be worth nearly £5 in grants.
