Convalescence home in Sevenoaks over 50 years ago,
does this ring any bells? I have received a request from a lady who says she
had the privilege of staying in a convalescence home in Sevenoaks when she was
10 (she is now 64) and remembers it as a beautiful country home, with stables,
near a railway station, owned by a charming elderly lady who had a little yorkie
dog named Pippin. She also remembers a small café called the Copper Kettle
where her Mother would take her when she came to visit. She doesn’t know
long it stayed in existence as a convalescence facility but would especially
love to know who the lady was as she had obviously given up her home to the NHS
for children with health problems, If you can help please contact her devitoi@verizon.net

Councillor Leon Baker has written to the chairman of the
Train Horns Steering Group of the Rail Safety

account and that of a large number of Otford residents whose properties are located
within one mile of the railway line. As many of you will know the trains sound
their horns at the two pedestrian crossings on the line throughout the day and

making it impossible to enjoy their gardens during the day. It is hoped that
these views will be considered at a forthcoming meeting. |

OTFORD VILLAGE MEMORIAL HALL
Despite my previous pleas, regrettably, nobody has come
forward to offer to take over from John Bolton as the Hall’s Treasurer.
Desperation has now set in as John is going to retire in January whether
we have a replacement or not. After much heart-searching we have now agreed that if we
cannot get someone to undertake this role on a voluntary basis we will have to
pay an individual to do the work. We have been reluctant to do this as any increases
in costs will have to get passed on to hirers – including all of the village
organisations who make such use of the hall and who find it a valuable (and currently
affordable) asset to the village.
If you have a little time to spare each week
and are a capable bookkeeper or accountant who can help us to computerise the
accounts, we would like to hear from you giving us some indication of what you
anticipate we should pay. The alternative is that we employ a firm of accountants
at, say, £100.00 per hour and this again will have to be reflected in the
Hall’s hire charges. Please call me, Ron
Dullage, Chairman on 01959 522007

Allotments Association. As always happens at the
end/start of an allotment year, tenants decide to downsize for various reasons,
and so there are now three half-plots available. These you can make yours at
a very small rent, and now is the time to insert your personal touch by cultivating
and growing what you (and your family) like to eat, or just to grow flowers to
cheer you up at this time of the year. Give Barbara Hine a ring on 01959 525468,
who will be delighted to show you round the allotment site, or call in to the

The Association is holding
