Otford Methodist Church are holding a fortnight of events to mark the completion of their new hall complex with the celebrations starting on Sunday June 10 with tea being served at 4pm followed by a celebration service at 5pm. Everyone is invited to join in and have a look around the new facilities. From June 11-15 the hall will be open each day from 10.00 to noon for coffee and cakes and also from June 18-22 between 7.30 to 9.30pm. They are also holding a Fashion Show in the new hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday June 12 when a range of leading ex-chain store clothes for women and children will be shown. Oxenhill Meadow and Shaw guided walks with Jonathan Webb, SDC's Woodland consultant start at 2.30pm on Saturday, please meet by the main entrance at the bottom of Tudor Drive. Otford Village Fete is being held this Bank Holiday Monday from 1 p.m. on the Recreation Ground. With over 60 stalls and attractions it will be a great day for all the family. Otford's Village Design Statement workshop day was a big success with a wide range of residents taking part which resulted in 14 big display boards full of photos and comments which will all contribute toward the final VDS document. On Saturday June 2 these display boards and other VDS material will be in the parish Church Hall between 2pm and 5.30pm. giving everyone the opportunity to see what Otford achieved. At 8pm there will be an Open Meeting for all residents in order to invite as much comment as possible as the VDS should represent the voice of the whole village on what they want included in the final document. Noises Off is the next Stag Theatre production from Wednesday May 30 to Saturday June 2 at the Ship Theatre, Holly Bush Lane, Sevenoaks. For those who don’t know the play, it is a farce about a touring company who are rehearsing a sex play “Nothing On” and then, in act two, continue to actually perform the play whilst on tour. In the second act the whole set is turned around and you see the cast perform the play from back stage. Otford Methodist Church is holding a Coffee Morning and Sale for Christian Aid between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday (May 19) where they will be selling plants and cakes with a variety of stalls including Traidcraft. This will take place in the new church hall and all the village will receive invitations for the official opening week of activities from June 10. They are also holding a frugal lunch on Tuesday 22 again to raise funds for Christian Aid.

Otford Evening WI members May meeting was a very businesslike affair as they were given detailed information on the Otford Village Design Statement by Rod Shelton. They then discussed and voted on the Resolution to be proposed at the AGM in June at the Albert Hall. Next month, on June 14 their meeting will be more light-hearted when the speaker will talk on being “A Petticoat Pilot”. Visitors welcome go along to the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.

1940's Society welcome Dr John Ray at 8pm tomorrow (May 18) in the Memorial Hall for a talk entitled “The Day War Broke Out”. Anyone who has heard Dr Ray speak before will know what a spell binding evening is in store. Dr Ray will be looking at the background to the coming of war, Appeasement, the Rhineland and Munich will be examined as will civilian preparations for war, from gas masks to air raid shelters, followed by a look at Sunday 3 September, evacuation and everyday life in West Kent. Rockdale have been short listed in the Heart of the Community competition and hope to win £1,000 to buy a much needed special lightweight mobile elevating lift which assists an elderly person who has fallen over to stand again. This equipment would enable a resident to keep their personal dignity by being helped by a support worker they know rather than having to call for an ambulance if they have fallen over. Otford Cricket Club colts had some success last season and they are now open for new members for the 2007 season and want to be Kent champions again.
Membership of the Colts is open to all children between the ages of 7 and 15 (school years 2 to 10). The club has weekly coaching on a Sunday morning for two hours from 10.30am to 12.30pm on the recreation ground until July 22. The juniors also play friendly matches, tournaments and compete in the Bat & Ball Sports Mid Kent Youth League at under 11, under 13 and under 15 age groups.
The club holds Sport England ClubMark, to prove that it is a safe, effective and child-friendly club. For further details of club activities and how to join please contact Colts Manager Mark Stevens 01959 523881.

Otford - Precigne. The first delegation from Otford will travel to Precigne, near Le Mans, this Saturday May 5 following the first full and very successful visit by Monsieur Francois Cerbelaud-Salagnc and his wife to Otford at the end of November. If you are interested in participating in the future Jane Lawrey would like to hear from you especially if you belong to a local organisation, particularly youth, or have any suggestion for future contacts.
