The 1940’s Society welcome Don Dray on Friday at 8pm for an audio-visual presentation entitled ‘The History of British Broadcasting’. This promises to be a fascinating evening that covers the first 30 years of radio broadcasting in Britain, from the 'cats whisker' receiver in 1922 to the early 1950s. With a wide ranging content there will be a nostalgic reminder of the voices, sounds, comedy, popular music, serious events and wartime memories that filled the lives of listeners during those years. Those who managed to see Don's last presentation will know what an excellent evening this will be with commentary, recorded sounds and music supported by a great collection of slides. Meeting starts at 8pm in the Memorial Hall, admission £2, further details from Ian on 01732 452505 or at www.1940.co.uk. |
