Jean and Ken Gunderson, who have lived in the village for 54 years, brought up 5 children and are both active members of Otford Players, keen gardeners and, as octogenarians, still play an active part in village life, are celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary today Thursday 29.  As a special surprise their family have also arranged for them to receive a personal message from the Queen.  Members of Otford Society, Otford Players and the Methodist Church particularly send their congratulations and good wishes on this wonderful achievement.

Otford Folk Dance Club meet at 8pm tonight in the Church Hall, High Street dancing to Carol Hewson calling to recorded music.  The cost is one pound fifty which includes tea or coffee and biscuits.   All kinds of mixed folk dances are on offer and if you have little or no dance knowledge the caller will give help and your fellow dancers will also assist you.   The emphasis is on friendly enjoyment rather than perfection.   If you would like more information please ring Peter George 01959 522105.

Rockdale, the charitable Housing Association in the heart of Sevenoaks, has signed a £5.6M contract with construction company Mansells, to build a new 48-bedroom care home and 29 new leasehold sheltered apartments.  This preserves Rockdale’s tradition of offering affordable care for those most in need, rather than most able to pay.  For the past eight years Rockdale has been preparing for this big investment for the future. Their goal is to ensure that older people challenged by frailty in their later years will still have the option of choosing affordable residential care, should they need to. 

A big thank you is due to their Appeal Board, chaired by Sam Footitt, and all the individuals, businesses and charitable trusts who have supported the fundraising activities over the years. These activities have raised over £1.5M, without which this project could never have taken place.  The care home will be ready for occupation in the spring/summer of 2013. Fund-raising for the project will continue in the hope that the original target of £1.75M can be reached.
