Welcome to the website for the Otford Village Fete.
Our fete was held on Monday 26 May 2008 and could you believe we were rained out for the second year running. Thankfully the wind calmed down once the fete began and the rain did ease off a bit, but still it was wet.
This year we were able to accomodate all the commercial and village stall holders within the village and church halls in Otford. Despite the weather we still had many activities outside as well!
As is tradition our fete started with a Parade. This year our theme was 'That's Entertainment'. They were led by a jazz band and the floats were wonderful and very entertaining. There were nurses, cats, lunar jim and many more. Why even Darth Vadar joined in the fun. If you were one of the many supporters of the parade and you have photos please add them to our photo gallery.
Best of all was the response from the people of Otford. You were amazing. You came out and supported our parade and the fete and everyone had a wonderful time.
A very popular event was our dog show. This was run by Elands Veterinary and they had the most wonderful entries. Dogs of all shapes and sizes were out showing how well behaved, funny, cute and beautiful they were. The judges really did have their work cut out for them judging who is was the best.
All our old favourites were here as well. The Scouts once again had the BBQ running hot with sausages and burgers. The Beer Tent offered great local beer as well as a dry retreat for many. And if it was a cup of tea and cake you needed St Bartholomew's Church provided all you could want. A nice hot cut of tea and home make cake. Perfect if you had been outside. While you had your tea you were entertained by Hard2Handle and Southern Rag-A-Jazz. As well as dance numbers by Invicta Morris Dancers and the Razzle Dazzle Dance group.
The children were regularly entertained by Bobbo the Clown who performed his Punch and Judy show as well crafting some great balloon art for them all. He really had them packed in for his three shows.
There were sweets, tombolas, wheel of fortune, cake stalls, stalls selling plants and giving out great gardening advice and of course the annual coconut shy. Everything a good fete should have.
We had stalls at the Church Hall with a range of clothing, jewellery, furniture, cakes and plants. While sometimes quieter than the main hall the crowds were very good at moving between all our sites.
The Methodist Hall was our third site. Here the Methodist Church put on teas and there were also an exciting range of stalls from make-up to Bric-a-Brac.
So all there is to do now is to say a big thank you to everyone who came. We had supporters who were local as well as many who came from all over. We hope you all had a really great time.
Once again check out the photo gallery if you want to load your photographs from the day or see the fun that was had.
